Limax Maximus

I've been so tempted to collect a few of the large ones which explore our front and back porches, but I am not sure how safe they'll be in a houseful of "purrbabies" though I know the cats never bother them outdoors. My mother might be the major obstacle, as she thinks they're creepy, not fascinating as I do.

I think we're new territory for them, as we're in South-Central Illinois. I think last year might have been the first time we had them, along with the usual slugs; this year, they're the only ones around, so they likely wiped out the small slugs. I do know that, though they're invasive, I don't want to kill them! I figure that they're going to spread anyway, as we surely aren't the only place which has them. They like my mom's flower gardens, and at least one lives near the front door.

I took photos of them last year and continue to do so this year.

By the way: They LOVE Meow Mix! We would leave a dish on the front porch for the semi-feral cats who visit us. Then, I saw that the slugs would swarm over the leftovers; I read that they carry parasites and diseases, so we stopped leaving the food out for fear that they might be contaminating it. Also, I was concerned over the cats accidentally ingesting some of the tiny slugs.
